Our mission is to work with the surrounding communities and organizations to revitalize Thomas Greene Park and to support ecological, recreational, educational and economic uses that increase the park's attractiveness as a destination while respecting the character of the surrounding areas. The Friends of Thomas/Greene Park, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) organization, (EIN# 65- 1278807). We continue to develop the park to receive an eventual 200,000 Brooklynites annually from Gowanus, Boerum Hill, Carroll Gardens, and Park Slope neighborhoods. The park has a pool (including a toddler section), playground with a water feature, skate park, basketball courts, new picnic tables and benches, and services and programs such as the School Food program, free swimming lessons, and serves as a cooling center. During our recent annual event it was observed that, "The skate board features and basketball courts continue to draw in the crowds," and "On the day of the Grind the ball courts were filled with new bike enthusiasts." The Friends of Thomas Greene Park continues to work with community and business partners to enhance the quality of life in the area by creating programming & special activities for all ages, advancing the quality and use of the skateboard section, creating much needed green space, continuing to work with the NYC Parks Department to assure completion of the park's renovation, has successfully appealed to the NYC Council in 2010 to restore funds to keep the park's "DD Pool" open, and continues to work for the renovation and accessibility of the pool. We continue to work towards the creation of a much-needed comfort station.
